Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi (born December 16, 1949 in Nigeria) is a Nigerian politician from the state of Oyo in southwestern Nigeria. Previously, he was the Chief Executive Officer of the National Oil and Chemical Marketing Company, a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum, Nigeria. After 26 years in 2002, he left the oil sector and in 2003 was elected Senator of the Republic of Nigeria, representing the Senatorial District of Oyo South on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
After a term in the Senate, he fought in 2007 under the banner of the All Nigeria People’s Party for the governorship of Oyo, an offer he lost. He reappeared in the April 2011 elections at the Nigerian Action Congress as a candidate and was elected in a highly competitive vote governor of the state of Oyo.
Abiola Ajimobi was born on 16 December 1949 as the son of Ajimobi of Ibadan in Oja-Iba, Ibadan. His grandfather was Sobaloju from Ibadan country (chief of the royal court of Ibadan). His uncle Hon. NA Ajimobi was Minister of Works and Transport in the western region. His father, Pa Ajimobi, was also an honorary member of the House of Assembly in the Old Western region.
He began his education at the Saint Patricks Primary School in Oke-Padre in Ibadan. He completed his primary education at the Ibadan City Council Primary School in Aperin. His secondary education took place at Lagelu High School. As a high school student he was active in the fields of athletics, table tennis and football, including as game prefect of the school.
The training at Ajimobi University took place in the United States of America. There he studied business administration and finance at the State University of New York in Buffalo, New York, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. His MBA was in Operations Research and Marketing with a major in Finance from Governors State University, University Park, Illinois.
Ajimobi is Muslim and is married to Her Excellency Mrs Florence Ajimobi. The union is blessed with children. Ajimobi’s son, Idris is married to the daughter of the governor of Kano state Alhaji Umar Ganduje.
