Akala, a former governor of Oyo State, Nigeria, was a candidate of the ADP in 2019 when Akala resigned for All Progressive Congress [APC]. Alao-Akala was born on June 3, 1950 in Ogbomoso, Ogbomoso North, Oyo State, and had his elementary school at Osupa Baptist Day School, Ogbomoso. Alao-Akala went to the Kamina Barracks Middle School, 5th Infantry Tamale Battalion, Ghana. Qualification in Business Administration (1998), Doctor of Civil Law (DCL) Honoris Causa, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso (2006), Doctor of Science (Political Science) Honoris Causa, Lead City University, Ibadan (2008).
Christopher Alao-Akala was appointed in June 1974 as a police cadet inspector at the Nigeria Police College in Ikeja. He was recommended for overseas training at the Metropolitan Police Training School at Peel Center in Hendon, London. He also visited the Administrative Staff College in Topo, Badagry. the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos; Police Staff College, Jos; Command and Staff College, Jaji. Otunba Alao-Akala has participated as a Nigerian delegate in two INTERPOL conferences in Nice (France) and Malaga (Spain).
Alao-Akala is married and has several children. His second wife, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Alao-Akala, was the first lady of Oyo State during his time as governor. He is a writer and is the author of numerous publications on policing and local government. His publications include: Training of police cadet Inspectors: Prospects and Problems (May 1985), Police and The Media: A Critical Approach (June 1990), and Conflict Resolution and Crime in Local Governments (September 2004).
