She returned to Nigeria and joined Shell Petroleum Development Corporation in 1992.
In 2002, she attended Cambridge Judge Business School for her MBA degree. After returning to Nigeria, Diezani Alison-Madueke was appointed as an Executive Director in Shell in 2006. She was the first woman ever to be appointed by Shell as an Executive Director in Nigeria.
