Ibikunle Amosun (born January 25, 1958 in Ogun, Nigeria) is a Nigerian politician who was elected in April 2003, Senator of the Ogun Central District. In 2011, he ran again as governor and this time on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) was elected. He ran in 2015 for the second term in the context of the All Progressive Congress and was re-elected and sworn in on May 29, 2015.
Amosun was born on 25 January 1958 into a Muslim family. He attended the elementary school of the African Church in Abeokuta (1965-1970) and the African Church Grammar School in Abeokuta (1971-1977). He then went to the Ogun State Polytechnic, where he graduated in 1983, the Higher National Diploma (HND). In 1990 Amosun became an associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAN). In 1996 he became a Fellow of the Institute also became associate member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (1998).
Amosun began his career in 1984 as an auditor with Lanre Aremu & Co. (Chartered Accountants). Later he joined XtraEdge Consulting as Managing Consultant. From 1990 he was principal partner of Ibikunle Amosun & Co. (certified public accountant) in Lagos. Amosun went to the University of Westminster in London, UK, where he earned a Master of Arts in International Finance in 2000.
Senator Amosun is married to Mrs. Olufunso Amosun and the blissful union has produced five lovely children.
Senator Amosun believes in social development through philanthropy. He instituted a scholarship scheme in 1986, several years before venturing into politics, which he later institutionalized by setting up the Senator Ibikunle Amosun Scholarship Foundation (SIASF) on Thursday, 7 July 2005. He has awarded scholarships to over 1,000 students of Ogun State origin, in various institutions of higher learning.
He instituted various other subsisting empowerment initiatives for trade groups, artisans, communities, women and other vulnerable groups in the society.
His Alma Maters – African Church Grammar School, Abeokuta and Ogun State Polytechnic (now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), also in Abeokuta – have benefited from his generous disposition to give back to the society. He built and commissioned the Administrative Block at African Church Grammar School, among other similar gestures.
