He was born on May 18, 1972 in England, Great Britain. He is a British citizen by birth. Kalu Ikeagwu moved to Nigeria at the age of 9, fearing that he might give up his Igbo roots.
He is originally from Enugu state, southeastern Nigeria. He completed elementary education in England and Zambia before moving to Nigeria, where he completed secondary education and received his West African Senior Citizenship Certificate.
After completing secondary education, Kalu Ikeagwu went to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu, Nigeria, and graduated in 1991 with a bachelor’s degree in English.
